i am an on-location, natural light photographer, which means i don't work out of a studio. sessions will typically last 1-2 hours. i like to encourage clients to select a place for their session that will have meaning to them, such as a favorite park or spot by the water... even your own home, backyard, or boat.

clothing

the goal is to capture who you really are...that includes clothing! choose something comfortable; if you are relaxed, it will show through in your photographs. matchy-matchy is not necessary; coordinating using different colors works well; textures such as sweaters, knit hats in the fall and winter, denim, and a favorite necklace can add personality and interest to photos. please try to stay away from logos, and it's best to either have only one person in the family wearing any sort of pattern (for instance...the favorite striped tights that your daughter wants to wear), or no patterns at all. this is a general rule, of course... use your discretion. white is usually difficult to photograph, but if your favorite piece of clothing is white, i won't stop you! a change of clothing is also welcome if you want to add even more variety to your session.

babies and toddlers

i am a mother of two, so i understand all that is entailed in getting photographs of little ones. i am patient, and will be more than willing to take breaks for snacks, diaper changes, or if your child simply needs a break from the camera. please make sure your child is well-rested and fed before the session... it makes for a happier child!

newborn

for a newborn shoot, you will want to schedule the session within the first two weeks of life. this is when babies are still curled up, have clearer skin, and sleep a lot! these are important factors in capturing the small, beautiful innocence of those first days. i will gladly make room in my schedule for any newborn sessions.
